Welcome
Following the success of the 2016 workshop on Second Language Prosody (SLaP) at the University of Graz, we are delighted to announce that the 3rd SLaP workshop will take place in Bangor, on 9th and 10th November 2017. The 1.5-day event aims to promote research into prosodic aspects of second language speech learning, and is preceded by the half-day methods workshop Prosody Online: Open source software in comprehension & production research.
Bangor is widely recognised as one of the most scenic university settings in the UK, set between the famous Snowdonia mountains and the sea. Research in the field of bilingualism at Bangor draws upon several disciplines including linguistics, psychology, neuroscience, education, sociology, economics, and political science. Recent years have seen an explosion of work in this area, as a result of which our understanding of the nature of the individual bilingual mind, of language use and development, as well as of the bilingual community, is making rapid progress.
The location, the scenery and the surrounding area are amongst the reasons why Bangor University enjoys rising student numbers and continuously attracts researchers from around the world for conferences and extended research visits spanning a variety of disciplines. This provides an ideal setting for an interesting and thought provoking Second Language Prosody workshop
